Wike say He’ll resign If BAT can't Protect him, Its clear he’s not, He has throw him to FCT Staff - Shehu

In a recent statement via his official X account, public commentator Mahdi Shehu has reacted to a recent protest involving staff and labour leaders in the Federal Capital Territory.

‎The protest, which took place in Abuja, reportedly targeted former Rivers State governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Exactly a week ago ,Wike said ‘I will resign if the president cannot protect me.’ It is clear that Tinubu is not willing to protect Wike. He has had enough of him and has thrown him to the aggrieved FCT staff to do as they wish. If Tinubu wanted to protect Wike, it would have an easy job,” he wrote.

‎In his post, Shehu described the protest as a turning point in Wike’s political journey, he suggested that the action by FCT workers was not sudden but the result of long-standing grievances.

‎According to him, visible leadership style, perceived arrogance, and strained relationships may have contributed to the backlash.

‎The protest involved workers openly confronting Wike during a public appearance, videos from the scene showed crowds chanting and security personnel attempting to manage the situation, the incident quickly spread across social media and generated widespread discussion.

Shehu argued that the development reflects deeper political calculations within government circles, he claimed that powerful political actors sometimes allow internal pressure to build as a way to remove figures they now see as liabilities.

‎In his view, the protest appeared organized rather than spontaneous, suggesting internal approval or tolerance, he linked the situation to recent statements attributed to Wike about personal security and loyalty from the presidency.

‎Shehu implied that the lack of strong intervention from federal authorities signaled a withdrawal of political support, he stated that if full protection had been intended, it could have been easily provided given the heavy presence of security agencies in Abuja.

‎According to Shehu, the ongoing situation may result in Wike’s gradual exit from active political relevance and predicted that Wike could soon be pushed out quietly without dramatic confrontation.
