Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have successfully neutralized over 18 terrorists and repelled a coordinated ISWAP attack in separate operations across North East Nigeria, the Joint Task Force (JTF) confirmed.
According to a statement released on 29 January 2026 by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Headquarters JTF North East, Sector 1 troops of Operation HADIN KAI conducted a surprise dawn raid at Bula Dalo on 28 January 2026, killing more than 12 terrorists.
The operation forced remaining insurgents to flee and led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, a PKT anti-aircraft gun, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and a multiple grenade launcher. In a follow-up assault on Garno terrorist camp, Sector 1 forces neutralized six more terrorists, destroyed their life-support structures, and seized a large cache of PKT ammunition.
Meanwhile, in a related incident at Sabon Gari on 29 January 2026, Sector 2 troops faced an ISWAP assault supported by armed drones. Although insurgents temporarily breached part of the defensive position, reinforcements helped troops restore full control. Some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force tragically lost their lives, and an excavator and lowbed were damaged during the attack.
Operations to exploit and secure affected areas are ongoing as the military continues efforts to deny terrorists freedom of action in the region.
