‎“Mr President only missed his step briefly” — Presidency reacts to viral Tinubu video in Turkey

‎The Presidency has addressed the viral video showing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu briefly stumbling during his ongoing state visit to Turkey, assuring Nigerians there is no health issue or disruption to his official duties.

‎The moment, captured in Ankara during a formal engagement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, sparked widespread reactions online. However, the President quickly regained his balance and carried on with the programme seamlessly.

‎Reacting to the buzz, Dada Olusegun, Senior Special Adviser on Social Media to the President, downplayed the incident, stating on X:
‎“Mr President missed his step very briefly and has continued his bilateral meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. A live press conference is happening immediately after the bilateral.”

‎To further calm public concerns, the Presidency released photos and videos of President Tinubu posing confidently with President Erdoğan, alongside top Nigerian officials including NSA Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

‎While the clip triggered mixed reactions online—especially questions about the President’s age and wellbeing—the Presidency insists everything is proceeding normally.

‎President Tinubu, 73, had earlier inspected a guard of honour on arrival in Ankara on Monday, January 26, after landing at Esenboğa Airport, where he was received by a Turkish delegation led by Education Minister Yusuf Tekkin.

‎The visit is focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Turkey, and according to the Presidency, all meetings and engagements remain on schedule.
‎📌 In short: brief misstep, no mishap — diplomacy continues.
