A Nigerian lady has stirred conversations online after sharing her opinion on the impact of internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo,” on the country and its youth.
According to her, while some people believe online fraud contributes financially to the economy, it has also caused deep social damage. She argued that many young people involved in fraud turn to drugs to cope with the lifestyle, whether to stay alert, survive pressure, or maintain a certain image. In her view, this has fueled substance abuse among youths.
She also claimed that the culture has stripped many young people of purpose, saying it distracts them from important issues like governance, politics, and accountability, even though these factors affect everyday life. She further stated that internet fraud promotes a sense of entitlement, especially around money, because funds that are easily obtained are often spent recklessly rather than invested.
The lady added that the lifestyle creates a repetitive cycle of spending, going broke, and returning to fraud, without real progress or stability. She advised those involved to reconsider their choices, explore their talents, and focus on legitimate businesses they can manage long-term.
Her comments have since generated mixed reactions, with many agreeing while others pushed back against her claims.
