Nigerian political activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has challenged President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, insisting that none of the journeys has produced a single new foreign investor for Nigeria, arguing that he would apologize if anyone can show him a foreign investor that was invited by the president.
Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, Sowore said the president’s pattern of traveling is the same thing that Nigerians experienced under the Buhari administration. He argued that rather than addressing urgent domestic challenges, they often resort to foreign trips as a way of avoiding responsibility and masking their inability to govern effectively.
According to Sowore, these trips do not translate into solutions for economic hardship or insecurity at home. Sowore further claimed that many of the trips are disguised as official engagements but are usually for personal medical reasons.
He stressed that traveling repeatedly without concrete results does not amount to governance, adding that President Tinubu appears willing to attend any international event that offers no meaningful purpose nor attracts investors.
Sowore asserted that the investors operating in Nigeria had been here before the current administration, and President Tinubu was not the one who brought them through his travels.
In his words, "If you can show me one foreign investor that Tinubu brought since he's been traveling, I will apologize. Just one. I'm not talking about Shell. Shell has always been in Nigeria. That's not an investor. Those ones are the people who are screwing the Nigerian environment. Those ones are not investors."
"I'm talking about somebody that he met at the conference and he said, ah, Mr. President, you spoke very well, Mr. Tinubu. I want to come and invest in Nigeria. Not a single one. But they will lie to you because they know how they feel about Nigerians. It's neither here nor there.
