Enugu Receives N1.2bn as EFCC Moves Against Failed Smart Schools Contract

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over N1.234 billion recovered from Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited to the Enugu State Government over an unexecuted contract for 22 smart schools.

The recovery followed a petition alleging that the firm collected about N2.289 billion as an advance payment but failed to deliver the project after the contract deadline elapsed. Acting on the petition, EFCC operatives in Enugu investigated the matter and recovered part of the funds.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to recovering misappropriated public funds and warned contractors to comply with procurement laws, noting that further investigation and prosecution would follow if criminality is established.

Enugu State officials commended the EFCC for its professionalism and transparency.
