A vessel carrying 50,000 metric tonnes of U.S.-grown wheat, valued at around $15 million, arrived at Apapa Port on Monday, highlighting Nigeria as the third-largest market for American wheat.
U.S. Consul General Rick Swart and U.S. Agricultural Counselor Chris Bielecki were present to witness the unloading. The shipment underscores the expanding agricultural partnership between the two countries, supporting American farmers while enabling Nigerian companies to boost food processing, create jobs, and provide high-quality ingredients to consumers.
Bilateral agricultural trade between the United States and Nigeria is projected to more than double in 2025, surpassing $700 million, benefiting producers, businesses, and households in both nations. The consistent flow of U.S. wheat reflects strong commercial ties and the strategic role of agriculture in U.S.-Nigeria economic relations.
