She began her professional journey after earning a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan, and later obtained an MBA from the Manchester Business School, United Kingdom. Sola David-Borha joined IBTC (Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited), which later became Stanbic IBTC Bank, where she rose through the ranks to hold key leadership positions. She became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, the parent company of Stanbic IBTC Bank, one of Nigeria’s largest financial institutions. Her tenure as CEO was marked by strong growth, innovation, and expansion of the bank’s services, particularly in wealth management, investment banking, and retail banking.
In January 2017, she was appointed the Chief Executive of Standard Bank Group’s Africa Regions, making her responsible for the bank’s operations across 20 African countries outside South Africa. This role placed her among the most powerful figures in African banking, overseeing multi-billion-dollar portfolios and driving financial inclusion across the continent.
As of February 2017, she was recognized as Nigeria’s highest-paid bank CEO, a testament to her exceptional leadership and impact in the financial sector. Her achievements have earned her widespread recognition, including being named the CNBC African Woman of the Year in 2016, honoring her as a trailblazer and a role model for women in leadership.
In September 2024, she reached another career milestone when she was appointed as the Board Chairman of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, returning to provide strategic leadership and governance oversight to the institution she helped build.
