Immigration Service Denies Seizing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Passport

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has refuted claims by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that her passport was seized at the airport to prevent her from travelling.

Speaking to Channels Television on Tuesday, the NIS spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi, said the senator only went through routine immigration checks and was subsequently allowed to travel.

“NIS didn’t seize the distinguished senator’s passport. Officers were only carrying out their statutory duties,” Akinlabi stated.

He explained that during immigration procedures, officers may briefly hold a traveller’s passport for verification — but that does not amount to confiscation.
