Nigeria’s crude oil output has risen to its highest in more than 6 years and now exceeds its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota for the 4th straight month.
According to data released Sunday 12July2026 in Abuja by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the country’s average crude oil production rose to 1.56 million barrels per day (mbpd) in June 2026, which is 4% higher than its OPEC production quota of 1.5mbpd.
In addition condensate output averaged 0.18mbpd, raising total crude/condensate to 1,735,398 bpd.
This is Nigeria’s highest crude oil output since April 2020, denoting a 74-month high.
NUPRC’s report also indicates June 2026 is the 4th consecutive month of oil production increase, which highlights recovery of the country’s upstream sector after years of severe losses due to oil theft, operational disruptions and vandalization of pipelines.
The report shows combined monthly production as follows:
Feb2026: 1.483mbpd
Mar2026: 1.564mbpd
Apr2026: 1.663mbpd
May2026: 1.701mbpd
Jun2026: 1.735mbpd
NUPRC attributes the improved performance to stable production across major oil-producing assets plus absence of any significant pipeline outages during the review period. Additionally, scheduled turnaround maintenance were effectively managed/ completed without major disruption to production operations.
The boost in production will strengthen Nigeria’s export earnings, improve FX inflows and provide additional revenue at this period government aims to raise oil output and attract fresh investments in the upstream sector.
