Defeating Benjamin Netanyahu in an Israeli election does not automatically mean he will lose his position as Prime Minister. Yes we all know that the Israeli masses want him out as you can see his rival, Gadi Eisenkot was giving him a tiny lead in the Israeli parliamentary elections on 27 October 2026.
So let me tell you why it is impossible to remove Netanyahu even if he loses the election; removing Netanyahu through an election is not as simple as defeating him at the polls because Israel’s proportional representation system requires parties to form coalitions to command a majority in the Knesset. Go and checkfact me.
Knesset has a total of 120 seats, so by Israeli law, a party needs at least 61 seats for an outright majority— and this is a threshold no single party has ever reached in the history of Israel.
That means even if Netanyahu’s party loses, he could still cling to power by assembling a coalition with smaller parties."
So by the end of the day, if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his chief rival (Gadi Eisenkot) both fail to secure a 61-seat majority in the Knesset, Benjamin Netanyahu will remain the Prime Minister of Israel in a caretaker capacity till further notice.
This is because under Israeli Basic Law, a sitting prime minister and their cabinet stays in office as an interim caretaker government until a new coalition is successfully formed, sworn in, and wins a vote of confidence in the Knesset.
