Two FUTA Alumni Develop Technology for National Digital Postcode

...Gets Commendation of Minister
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Dr Bosun Tijani has celebrated Two FUTA ALUMNI Taslim Salaudeen and Adedamola Baderinwa, promoters of the Nigerian company behind the technology powering the new National Digital Postcode.

Dr Tijani described the two founders of Milsat Technologies as exemplification of "the depth of Nigerian technical capability and our ability to create infrastructure that improves public services, supports businesses and opens up economic opportunities."
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of FUTA Professor Adenike Oladiji congratulated the duo describing them as worthy flag bearers of the institution. " This is heartwarming and it shows the excellence of FUTA products and the depth of the training we give to our students. They have shown that our products continue to contribute to national development and global advancement."

But the journey actually started at FUTA. In 2018 Taslim then a 500 level student of Remote Sensing and Geoscience Information System and his brother Salaudeen AbdulRaham, then a 300 level student of Computer Engineering developed a software application that can notify users about electricity availability in locations covered by the app.
The application tagged UpNepa Nigeria enables one to know when and where electricity is available. Taslim, a 500 level said the idea to develop the app was borne out of interest and personal development. They said the inspiration to develop the app emanated from alleviating the suffering and frustration being experienced by students who always look around the campus for power supply for academic purposes and to charge their devices.

The Minister's Statement:
Built in Nigeria. Ready for the world.

I want to celebrate Milsat Technologies, founded by Taslim Salaudeen and Adedamola Baderinwa, the Nigerian company behind the technology powering our new National Digital Postcode.

From delivering a pilot in 2023 to building a national system, Milsat demonstrates the depth of Nigerian technical capability and our ability to create infrastructure that improves public services, supports businesses and opens up economic opportunities.

Their work extends beyond postcode. Milsat supported the National Population Commission’s mapping of more than 65 million properties in preparation for Nigeria’s first digital census, and has deployed enumeration area demarcation technology in Sierra Leone.

This is the ambition I want us to nurture: Nigerian companies building solutions for our needs, proving their capabilities at home and taking that expertise to the world.

With appreciation to NIPOST Nigeria, Meeds Network Limited and the National Population Commission for their roles in this journey, today’s spotlight belongs to the Milsat team.

I look forward to seeing you help many more countries turn location and field data into better services for their people.
