Social media activist files N5bn suit against Nigerian Army, Chief of Army Staff, AGF over alleged rights violations

Justice Crack slams a ₦5 billion suit against the Nigerian Army, Chief of Army Staff and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) over alleged breach of his rights.
Blogger and social media activist Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, has filed a ₦5 billion fundamental human rights lawsuit against the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).

The ₦5 billion suit follows a highly publicized chain of events stemming from a viral video posted on Chidiebere's X (formerly Twitter) handle, @JusticeCrack. In the video, he criticized the welfare and feeding conditions of active Nigerian soldiers on the frontlines.

• Following the release of the video, Chidiebere went missing on April 28, 2026. The Nigerian Army subsequently confirmed his arrest, stating that he was detained for violating its social media policies and allegedly inciting insubordination among personnel. After being held in military custody, he was transferred to civil authorities.

The Department of State Services (DSS) eventually arraigned Chidiebere before the Federal High Court in Abuja under Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on a three-count cybercrime charge. The prosecution was subsequently taken over by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. He was granted a ₦5 million bail on May 18, 2026, subject to strict conditions.

In response to his initial detention by the military, Chidiebere initiated a civil suit demanding ₦5 billion in damages for the alleged breach of his fundamental rights, citing unlawful arrest, illegal detention beyond the constitutionally mandated limits, and mistreatment.
