The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old suspected gun-runner, identified as Umaru M., after recovering two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and 42 rounds of live ammunition from a bag inside a commercial vehicle.
The interception occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by police operatives along the Alapa–Okolowo axis of Ilorin, the state capital.
According to a statement released by the Command's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspect initially denied ownership of the bag containing the weapons when it was discovered.
Upon further interrogation, Umaru M. confessed to conveying the illegal firearms and ammunition. The suspect's confession exposed a broader firearms trafficking syndicate. He revealed that the weapons were handed to him by a network member known as Dan Yarubawa.
The firearms were meant for onward delivery to another individual named Dahiru, located outside Kwara State.
