The Lagos State Police Command, through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, has sensitised about 400 students of the Police Children School, Ikeja, on the importance of making positive choices and staying away from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
The programme, held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with the theme "Right Choices, Great Future," was aimed at promoting positive values and empowering students to make responsible decisions for a better future.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Henry Bassey, a member of POCACOV, encouraged the students to be law-abiding and maintain open communication with their parents, teachers and trusted adults, particularly when faced with threats or troubling experiences.
A mental health expert from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Dr. Hezekiah Akinlade, educated the students on the dangers of drug and substance abuse, while urging them to resist negative peer pressure and make healthy choices.
The POCACOV Coordinator in Lagos State, SP Olivia A. Ugochukwu, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, urged the students to remain focused on their education, choose their friends wisely, respect their parents and teachers, obey the law and avoid behaviours capable of jeopardising their future.
According to the Police, the programme forms part of the Lagos State Command's preventive approach to combating cultism, drug abuse and other vices through early engagement and positive value formation among young people.
The Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on October 3, 2026.
