The National Leadership of the Owo Local Government Area Students' Union, OLGASU, has celebrated former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on his 72nd birthday anniversary.
In a congratulatory message signed by its National President, Comr. Ojigbo Adeleke, Secretary General, Comr. Asolo Opeyemi, and PRO, Comr. Olafeyi Festus, the student body described Mimiko's contributions to educational development as monumental and worthy of immortalization.
According to OLGASU, the former governor's Caring Heart Mega School initiative remains an educational revolution and a reference point in Nigeria's history.
The union recalled that under Mimiko's administration, 51 world-class Caring Heart Mega Primary Schools were constructed across the three senatorial districts of the state, with each model surpassing UNESCO standards for a child-friendly school environment.
It noted that Mimiko transformed Ondo State's educational fortunes, moving the state from 33rd to 7th position in national education ranking, a feat it likened to the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
OLGASU further stated that the administration democratized access to quality education by bridging the gap between the rich and the poor, building schools within communities for the benefit of the less privileged.
It added that Mimiko launched the Free School Shuttle Bus Scheme, which conveyed over 53,000 pupils daily free of charge, boosted school enrolment and retention, and renovated over 300 schools, laying a solid foundation for free, qualitative and compulsory education.
"Your Excellency, you did not just build schools; you built the future, you restored hope, and you proved that true governance is about caring for the people," the statement read.
The union prayed for long life in good health, more wisdom and greater accomplishments for the former governor as he marks his birthday.
