Netanyahu Says Omani Co-Pilot Questioned Over Flydubai Incident

According to a report by CBS News on Thursday October 1, 2026, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said an Omani national accused of attacking the pilot of a Flydubai flight is currently being questioned in Saudi Arabia as investigators continue to examine the incident.

The incident happened on September 30 aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft reportedly sent emergency signals before diverting to Tabuk in northwestern Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.

According to Netanyahu, the suspect was the flight’s co-pilot and allegedly attacked the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, before attempting to interfere with the aircraft’s controls. The plane reportedly descended rapidly during the confrontation.

The captain sustained injuries but was able to help regain control of the cockpit, while passengers and other crew members reportedly restrained the alleged attacker.

Israeli officials have identified the suspect as an Omani national. However, authorities have not yet established a motive for the incident. Investigators are examining whether the confrontation amounted to an attempted hijacking, a targeted attack or another form of violence.

Netanyahu said Israel intends to participate in the investigation and question the suspect in Dubai as authorities from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates continue their inquiries.

No official motive has been announced, and authorities have not confirmed whether anyone else was involved in the incident.
