FRSC Owo Unit Commander Pays Courtesy Visit to NDLEA, Seeks Stronger Partnership Against Drug-Impaired Driving

In line with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corporate Strategic Goal 2, which focuses on sustaining strategic partnerships and stakeholders' engagement, the Ag. Unit Commander, RS11.22 Owo Unit Command, CRC Oladele Oyeyemi, has paid a courtesy visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Owo Division.

The visit, which took place on 16th October 2026, was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration and exploring areas of mutual cooperation towards promoting road safety and enhancing public safety within Owo and its environs.

The FRSC delegation comprised the Ag. Unit Commander, CRC Oladele Oyeyemi, and the Ag. Unit Head of Operations, SRC ER Oloko. They were warmly received by the Division Commander, NDLEA Owo Division, ACI OP Olufemi, alongside ACI CS Stewart, 2IC, and other members of the NDLEA management team.

During the visit, the Ag. Unit Commander emphasized the importance of strategic partnership between the FRSC and NDLEA, particularly in addressing the dangers of driving under the influence of illicit drugs and other psychoactive substances.

He noted that such substances impair drivers' judgement, alertness, coordination and reaction time, thereby increasing the risk of road traffic crashes. He stressed the need for joint public enlightenment, information sharing and collaborative sensitisation programmes to discourage drug-impaired driving.

In his response, the Division Commander, NDLEA Owo Division, ACI OP Olufemi, appreciated the delegation for the visit, describing it as a positive step towards strengthening the existing relationship between the two agencies.

He acknowledged the importance of collaboration in addressing drug abuse and its implications for road safety, noting that substance abuse remains a concern requiring collective efforts.

The NDLEA boss expressed the Agency's readiness to collaborate with the FRSC in public sensitisation campaigns, stakeholder engagement and other initiatives aimed at educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse, particularly among drivers and transport operators.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for both agencies to identify possible areas of future collaboration, including joint awareness programmes during the Ember Month Road Safety Campaign and community outreach within Owo and its environs.

The courtesy visit was described as successful, as it reinforced the relationship between the FRSC and NDLEA and provided a platform for further collaboration towards reducing road traffic crashes and promoting public safety.
