Forbes Africa has unveiled its inaugural Icons 2026 list to mark its 15th anniversary. The unranked selection recognizes 15 influential African figures, including Aliko Dangote, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Burna Boy, and Mo Abudu, who have shaped the continent's trajectory across business, public service, and culture.
The list was unveiled as the publication marks its 15th anniversary, celebrating individuals whose ideas, innovations and voices have made a lasting impact on Africa’s past, present and future.
Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning singer, is recognised alongside figures whose influence spans business, entertainment, public service, sports, literature and culture. His international success has helped bring Afrobeats and Nigerian music to a wider global audience.
Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, represents Africa’s business and industrial sector, while Okonjo-Iweala, the first woman and first African to lead the World Trade Organization, is recognised for her contributions to global economic leadership. Abudu, founder of EbonyLife Group, has played a prominent role in expanding the reach of African film and storytelling.
Other personalities on the list include South African businessman Patrice Motsepe, Zimbabwean entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa, former Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, actress Lupita Nyong’o, comedian Trevor Noah, singer Angélique Kidjo, football legend Didier Drogba, Ethiopian distance-running great Haile Gebrselassie, Nobel Prize-winning author Abdulrazak Gurnah, South African businessman Adrian Gore and billionaire Johann Rupert.
