“Filling a 12kg cylinder is now like performing a r!tual” — Nigerian man laments rising cooking gas prices

A Nigerian man has expressed frustration over the rising cost of cooking gas, lamenting that the price has become increasingly difficult for ordinary Nigerians to afford.

In a video circulating on social media, the man displayed a receipt showing that he paid ₦10,000 for 7.69kg of cooking gas, using the purchase to highlight the financial pressure consumers face.

He questioned how Nigerians could afford to fill a 12kg gas cylinder amid the prevailing economic challenges.

“If you get 12kg cylinder and you fill am full for this present Nigeria, na r!tual you dey do. EFCC suppose investigate you to know the kind work wey you dey do,” he said.

The man also compared the current cost of cooking gas with the prices he recalled during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to him, filling a 12kg cylinder cost approximately ₦2,200 during that period, while he said he purchased his gas cylinder for ₦6,200.

He expressed concern over the difference between the prices he recalled from that period and what consumers are paying today.

The man also criticised President Bola Tinubu over the rising cost of living, arguing that Nigerians continue to face financial difficulties despite expectations that economic conditions would improve.

He said he would reconsider his position on supporting the president if the country’s economic conditions returned to what they were before.

“If you want make me personally vote for you, return Nigeria as e be before. Me personally oo. I no talk about anybody,” he added.

The video has drawn attention to concerns about the affordability of cooking gas and the wider cost-of-living challenges facing Nigerian households.

However, the historical prices cited by the man reflect his account, and the receipt shown in the video does not, by itself, establish the prevailing market price across the country.
