The Federal Government has proposed a coordinated timetable for major national examinations in 2027, targeting the release of results by August to enable candidates to begin tertiary institution admission processes in September.
Under the proposed schedule, the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will hold from April 1 to May 14, while the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is scheduled for May 11 to June 18. Results for both examinations are expected in August.
The 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is proposed to take place from March 15 to 25, with results expected within the same month.
Similarly, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examination is scheduled for June 1 to July 5, while the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examination is expected to run from June 10 to July 9. Results for both examinations are also targeted for August.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, announced the proposed arrangement during a meeting with examination bodies in Abuja.
According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the initiative is designed to improve coordination among examination bodies, minimise scheduling conflicts and ensure a smoother transition for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
The ministry noted that consultations with the relevant examination bodies are ongoing to facilitate the implementation of the proposed timetable.
