The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term during their 2026 synod in Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation of over 950 bishops, the President-General of the CBCN, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, stated that the endorsement was earned because President Tinubu successfully balanced Nigeria's religious and ethnic diversity through his federal appointments, noting that there is "no iota of nepotism".
Archbishop Kawas recalled that the group was initially highly concerned about the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket during the 2023 elections. However, key decisions changed their perception.
The religious body specifically highlighted strategic appointments as evidence of inclusivity, including choosing Senator George Akume (a Christian) as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and appointing Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The declaration took place during the grand finale of the conference, which was attended by senior administration officials including SGF George Akume and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
