Meet Captain Ruth Adeola Adebanwo, the award winning female pilot who flew Ibom Air’s brand new aircraft from Canada to Akwa Ibom

Her name is Captain Ruth Adeola Adebanwo and she is already the Chief Pilot of Ibom Air

So, she didn't become Chief Pilot because of this latest arrival. She had been occupying that position before now. In fact, Ibom Air had previously celebrated her as the woman heading its flight crew

But this particular flight has now added another major achievement to her name

On 1st September, Captain Ruth flew a brand new Airbus A22O 3OO from Airbus facility in Mirabel Canada, all the way to Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo

That's about 8,945 kilometres in the sky

And when she finally touched down in Uyo, the reception was something else

Dignitaries and residents gathered to welcome the aircraft, but somehow, the attention quickly shifted to the woman sitting inside the cockpit

The Chief Pilot had just flown a brand new aircraft into Nigeria.

And according to reports, Captain Ruth has now become the first woman to fly a brand new aircraft into Nigeria

But wait until you hear where her journey started

Before becoming a pilot and eventually rising to the position of Chief Pilot, Captain Ruth started out in aviation as a cabin crew member

She later trained as a pilot in South Africa and went on to gain more than 2O years of experience in aviation, flying different aircraft types and working with airlines including Aero Contractors, Arik Air and Ibom Air

She was also recognised among the Top 1OO Women in Travel and Tourism in Africa. So when you see her stepping out of that brand new aircraft in Uyo, just know that there is a very long story behind that moment
