Police in Kaduna State have arrested a man accused of k!lling his 35-year-old girlfriend over a phone call from another woman.
Manaseh Bitrus Jatau was arrested after the body of Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah was found on a street in Romi on Saturday, September 5.
She was discovered with cotton wool stuffed in her nose.
According to police, detectives traced the suspect's movements and found that Jatau was the last person to contact Jeremiah.
He had invited her to meet him at a bar, and she went.
Authorities found him at his workplace and arrested him.
During interrogation, Jatau admitted to getting into a fight with Jeremiah in his room over a phone call she received from another woman.
He said the fight resulted in her d£ath.
He then confessed to dumping her body in an open field near his house to hide what he had done.
The body was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed she was dead.
Her remains are being kept at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
The police commissioner condemned all acts of violence and urged the public to solve disputes peacefully.
He assured residents that the police are committed to getting justice for victims and holding offenders accountable.
He also urged people to give police information that could help prevent violence and crime in the state.
The suspect is in custody as investigation continues. He will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
