Hakeem Jeffries just told reporters the exit from the Iran conflict is already written. “The path out of this was already shown to us by President Obama. It’s aggressive diplomacy that brings the world together to contain Iran.” He added that the real problem “is not ending the war…it’s that we don’t have a president who has the ability to pursue that type of diplomacy.”
That 2015 path was the nuclear deal. Sanctions relief and cash transfers followed. Tehran used the breathing room to bankroll proxies across the region. The program was paused, not ended. The regime got richer and more dangerous.
The current approach has Iran calling Washington directly, looking for a way out instead of racing toward a bomb. Jeffries is selling the same formula that already failed.
