The Nigeria Immigration Service has intercepted 17 irregular migrants in Adamawa State while its operatives also arrested two suspected kidnappers allegedly found with N34 million believed to be ransom money.
The two suspects, identified as 55 year old Alhaji Jaye and 34 year old Buba Bello, were arrested on Sunday, September 6, 2026, with the cash in their possession.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects reportedly confessed that the N34 million was meant to secure the release of a kidnapped victim.
The development was disclosed by the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service in a statement issued by the office of the State Comptroller, Sule Jega.
In a separate operation, immigration operatives intercepted 17 undocumented migrants at a private residence in Rumde Baru, a community in Yola South Local Government Area of the state.
The migrants comprised 13 Cameroonian nationals, made up of eight males and five females, as well as four male nationals of Chad.
The command said the interception raised concerns over what it described as a changing pattern in the accommodation of undocumented migrants in the state.
According to the NIS, irregular migrants were increasingly moving away from hotels and taking shelter in private residences, a development the command said could make monitoring and identification more difficult.
The Service said the latest operation formed part of its efforts to strengthen border security, curb irregular migration and address emerging security concerns within the state.
The authorities are expected to continue investigations into both incidents to establish the full circumstances surrounding the suspected ransom payment and the presence of the undocumented migrants in the private residence.
