“I Think This Is Deception” — Man Reveals How Church Dubiously Sold Him Cucumber Instead of Shawarma

A Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Abazu, has expressed disappointment after buying what he believed was shawarma during a church harvest programme, only to discover that the food contained cucumber.

Abazu shared his experience in a Facebook post after attending his first church service since August. He said he bought two portions of the food after it was repeatedly advertised as shawarma during a fundraiser at the harvest event.

‘I Think This Is Deception’

According to Abazu, he was disappointed by the experience because he had willingly supported the church financially but felt that the food he received did not match what had been advertised.

He explained that he took the food home and asked his sister to heat it before he ate it as an appetiser. However, after unwrapping it, he was surprised to discover cucumber inside.

Abazu said he initially thought the unusual texture might have been due to a different type of shawarma bread because he trusted the description given by the church.

He said:

> “If you told me it’s cucumber, I will still support the church but definitely not in the same way I would do for shawarma. I think this is deception.”

‘I Will Unwrap It Inside Church’

The experience prompted Abazu to jokingly say that he would be more careful about food purchases at church events in the future.

He wrote:

> “Anything I buy from church from now on, I will unwrap it inside church.”

His post has sparked amusement and discussion online, with the incident highlighting how differences between what is advertised and what is ultimately served can leave customers disappointed—even during charitable or fundraising events.
