The duo’s rapid rise from grassroots football in their community to representing Ondo State has been linked to the intervention of the Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Student Matters, Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu.
Olaolu, a known lover of sports and a strong advocate of youth development in Ose, reportedly spotted the players’ potential and took personal interest in nurturing their careers.
He provided them with football kits and facilitated their trip to Akure, where they attended trials with the Ondo State team.
Both Adekoye and Emmanuel impressed during the trials and earned places in the final 18-man squad selected to represent Ondo State at the Southwest Ball Games Zonal Elimination in Ibadan.
Rather than merely making up the numbers, the Afo-born youngsters played important roles as Ondo State secured qualification for the Intermediate Games scheduled to hold in Lagos State next year.
Their performances have since earned them another opportunity, with both players selected for the Ondo State Sports Council’s main football team.
They will now be available to represent the state in national football competitions.
For the two youngsters, the journey has been a remarkable one.
Adekoye and Emmanuel expressed appreciation to Olaolu for what they described as his “fatherly” support,
saying his intervention had changed the direction of their football careers and given them an opportunity to play on a bigger stage.
From playing football in Afo to wearing the colours of Ondo State within a short period, the players said the experience had raised their confidence and exposed them to opportunities they previously could only dream of.
Head coach of the Ondo State Sports Council football team, Akinwande Akintomide, popularly known as “Akwan”, also praised Olaolu for his role in identifying and supporting the youngsters.
Akintomide described the discovery of the two players as a positive development for grassroots football and urged stakeholders to intensify the search for hidden talents across the state’s 18 local government areas.
He also encouraged individuals and organisations to emulate Olaolu by investing in young athletes and creating pathways for them to develop their talents.
The emergence of Adekoye and Emmanuel has once again brought attention to the wealth of untapped football talent in Ondo State, particularly in rural communities where promising youngsters often lack the resources and exposure needed to advance their careers.
