The family of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), demanding that he either substantiate his allegation that El-Rufai actively planned k+llings in Southern Kaduna or issue a full public retraction and apology.
The ultimatum was contained in a formal statement released on September 7, 2026, signed by the former governor's eldest son and Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, on behalf of the family.
During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3, 2026, General Christopher Musa accused El-Rufai of deliberately planning and orchestrating k+llings in Southern Kaduna during his tenure as governor. Musa also accused him of paying off bandits and using his position to divide the state.
Reacting to the allegation, the El-Rufai family through Bello El Rufai stated that the Defence Minister made these "grave and damaging" allegations completely without presenting any supporting evidence. He noted that while Musa is entitled to his personal opinions, criminal allegations must be backed by credible facts.
The family has given General Musa seven days from the date of the statement to publicly retract his comments through the same media channel (Channels Television) where they were broadcast.
The statement explicitly warned that if the Minister fails to provide evidence or retract his statement within the stipulated seven days, the family will pursue all appropriate legal remedies under Nigerian law.
