Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has demanded a ₦10 billion compensation and a public retraction from Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), over allegations linking him to state-wide violence, banditry, and punitive demolitions.
The ultimatum was delivered via a formal "letter before action" dated Monday, September 7, 2026, prepared by El-Rufai's legal counsel, the Chambers of Ubong Akpan.
The legal battle stems from General Musa's appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today on September 3, 2026. During the broadcast, the Minister heavily criticized El-Rufai's 2015–2023 tenure as "toxic" and deeply divisive, accusing him of escalating tensions along ethnic and religious lines.
In a letter before action dated September 7, 2026, El-Rufai’s legal counsel rejected the statements as false and damaging. The ₦10 billion demand serves as an out-of-court settlement offer, with a seven-day ultimatum for the minister to pay the compensation and publish retractions in two national newspapers, or face a defamation lawsuit.
El Rufai family also endorsed a separate statement by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai condemning the allegations and demanding evidence or a retraction within seven days.
