The Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Thomas Bariere, has paid the September electricity bills for rural communities across the Local Government Area, as part of his administration’s efforts to improve electricity supply and support socio-economic activities.
The payment of the bills comes alongside the council’s continued investment in electricity infrastructure, with Dr. Bariere procuring additional transformers to address persistent power challenges confronting communities across Khana.
The council had earlier procured 22 units of 500KVA transformers for installation in various communities, in a move aimed at strengthening electricity distribution and improving access to power.
The latest intervention is also being reinforced through the ongoing Operation Light Up Khana initiative, which has extended to the Nyor-Khana axis following the commencement of electrical infrastructure works at the Polytechnic Junction, Bori.
A team of workers led by the Special Adviser on Power, Dominic Teteh, has commenced the installation of high-tension poles and conductors towards the Taabaa Nyor-Khana axis, alongside low-tension poles and wires to extend electricity supply to the Khana Local Government Council area and surrounding communities.
The development, according to the council, is part of Dr. Bariere’s sustained commitment to tackling electricity challenges and improving access to basic infrastructure across the LGA.
With the payment of the September PHED bills and the ongoing installation of transformers, poles and conductors, the Operation Light Up Khana initiative is gradually extending electricity infrastructure to communities that have experienced prolonged power challenges.
The council said the interventions are designed not only to improve access to electricity but also to create an enabling environment for businesses, education and other socio-economic activities across Khana.
