WHO IS A SHERIFF?
Sheriff is the Number 1 lawman for a whole County. A county is like a District in Zambia - e.g. Kitwe District includes Kitwe town + villages around it.
5 Things ONLY Sheriff Does:
1. He is ELECTED, not hired
People vote for him. Police Chief is just appointed. So Sheriff has more power - he answers directly to the people.
2. He owns the JAIL
Police arrest you, but they bring you to Sheriff's jail. Sheriff feeds you, guards you, keeps you there.
3. He guards the COURT
You see that officer with a gun standing in court? That's Sheriff's deputy.
4. He covers the BUSH / VILLAGES
City police stay in town where there are street lights. Sheriff goes to farms, villages, highways where there is no city police.
5. He serves court papers
If court says "you must come to court" or "your house is being sold" - Sheriff is the one who brings that paper to your door.
Look: Badge is different too.

In one line:
Sheriff = Father of all police in the district. Police = Son who only works in town.
