The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN), Prof. Bashir Idris LifidinJama’a, has moved quickly to address recent public discussions surrounding the employment and deployment of Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) by the Ondo State Government.
Rather than permitting professional disagreements to intensify, the Registrar visited Ondo State to engage stakeholders constructively. The visit also recognised the State Government’s efforts to strengthen quality healthcare delivery, reflecting responsive regulatory leadership and a preference for dialogue.
The engagement reaffirmed that Community Health Practitioners are trained, regulated and licensed professionals within Nigeria’s health system. CHPRBN’s mandate includes upholding professional standards, monitoring compliance, regulating training institutions and promoting ethical practice. CHEWs complete structured professional training and operate within clearly defined competencies and approved Standing Orders.
Prof. LifidinJama’a’s timely intervention underscored the principle that every health professional must practise within their lawful scope while working collaboratively. The shared goal remains safe, accessible, equitable and quality healthcare for all Nigerians.
