WASHINGTON, United States – A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm linked to former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has explained why it deleted a social media post announcing the alleged appointment of its leader, Dr Karl Von Batten, by US President Donald Trump.
Von Batten-Montague-York said the post was removed after the White House allegedly informed Dr Von Batten that the Nigerian government had repeatedly contacted officials over the appointment.
In a statement posted on its verified X account, the firm claimed it never intended for the matter to generate repeated calls from the Nigerian government to the White House.
The organisation also alleged that President Bola Tinubu and his associates were uncomfortable with its activities relating to allegations concerning the President's past in the United States.
“For the record, we deleted the post after the White House informed Dr Von Batten that the Nigerian government was repeatedly calling and complaining about the appointment,” the firm said.
The organisation further accused presidential spokespersons and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, of attacking its activities.
It claimed the controversy surrounding the appointment intensified after questions were raised about whether Dr Von Batten had actually been appointed by President Trump to serve on a White House commission.
The firm insisted that the appointment was genuine and accused the Nigerian Presidency of attempting to discredit the announcement.
The allegations and counterclaims surrounding the matter have continued to generate reactions, with no independent confirmation of several of the claims made by the lobbying firm.
