On Friday 11 September 2026, a trader named Mrs Nkechi John boarded a bus from Uzuakoli enroute Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal at Umuahia but alighted at Ubani Market.
She mistakenly left her bag in the vehicle. It held personal belongings and more than ₦400,000 in cash, which was money intended for her business.
Upon realizing she had left the bag in the bus, she immediately rushed back to the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal located along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Umuahia.
However, the driver Mr. Onyekachi Ikpendu had already secured the bag with the cash and other belongings, and was waiting at the Terminal for the owner to return.
Upon receiving her bag with its contents intact, Mrs Nkechi John was full of joy and thanked the driver for his integrity and sincerity.
She also commended Governor Alex Otti for building the Bus Terminal, saying if it had not been built, it might have been difficult for her to trace the vehicle and recover the cash.
In an interview with journalists at the Bus Terminal on that same Friday 11 September, the bus driver Mr. Ikpendu said he had no intention of keeping the money for himself, stressing that he was content with earning a living through his honest labour.
The Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, capital of Abia State, is a modern multimodal transport hub commissioned by Governor Alex Otti on 28 May 2026.
