We Have A Pres. Whose Nationality Is Unknown Because He Holds A Guinea Diplomatic Passport - Odinkalu

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, August 10, 2026, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has questioned aspects of President Bola Tinubu’s citizenship, educational background and family history in Nigeria.

Odinkalu raised concerns over what he described as gaps and uncertainties in the President’s publicly available personal records.

The Professor of Law made the comments while discussing issues surrounding the identity and background of the Nigerian leader.

Odinkalu said some major details concerning Tinubu’s personal information remained unclear, particularly those relating to his nationality, parentage and family background.

According to him, the absence of what he considers sufficient clarity in some aspects of the President’s records has continued to generate questions.

He maintained that information about the background of a president should be sufficiently clear to enable Nigerians to understand the circumstances surrounding the person occupying the country’s highest political office.

The former NHRC chairman made the remarks in a video posted on social media, where he highlighted what he described as inconsistencies and problems with the President’s public records.

Odinkalu questioned the information available about Tinubu’s background and referred to issues surrounding his citizenship and educational history.

He also raised questions about the President’s family history, arguing that some of the details relating to his personal background were still not sufficiently established in the public domain.

Odinkalu particularly raised concerns about an alleged connection between President Tinubu and a Guinean diplomatic passport.

He said the reported existence of such a document raised questions about the President’s nationality and identity.

According to the law professor, Nigerians still deserve greater clarity concerning the President’s nationality, especially in view of the issues he raised about the alleged diplomatic passport.

He linked the matter to broader questions about the availability and consistency of official records concerning Tinubu.

The law professor also referred to questions surrounding the parentage and family backgrounds of some Nigerian political figures.

He said the issues he raised were not limited to one aspect of President Tinubu’s personal history but extended to other details that he believes require clarification.

Odinkalu further referenced former President Muhammadu Buhari while making his point, saying that Buhari had also held a similar view concerning some of the questions surrounding personal backgrounds and official records.

He said, “We have a President whose nationality is unknown because he holds a Guinea diplomatic passport. We don’t know the parentage or family background of some people, and now we understand that President Buhari also thought the same."
