NGX crashes for 8th straight session as Investors Lose N5.45TRN

LAGOS, Nigeria – Investors in Nigeria’s equities market have recorded a cumulative loss of N5.45 trillion as the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) extended its bearish run to an eighth consecutive trading session.

The market has experienced sustained declines since August 11, with investors losing N3.8 trillion during four consecutive bearish sessions last week.

From Monday to Thursday this week, stocks recorded an additional N1.65 trillion loss, bringing total losses over the eight trading sessions to N5.45 trillion.

On Thursday alone, investors lost N440 billion as continued profit-taking in large- and mid-cap stocks dragged the market lower.

Market capitalisation fell by 0.30 percent, dropping from N155.417 trillion at the start of trading to N154.977 trillion at the close.

Haldane McCall led the gainers, rising 9.38 percent to close at N3.85, while International Energy Insurance topped the losers after falling 9.85 percent to N4.30.

The prolonged decline has also affected insurance stocks, with the implementation of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025 and recent licence revocations contributing to pressure in the sector.

Analysts and investors are now watching closely to see whether the market can reverse the extended sell-off and recover some of its recent losses.
