A woman has described how a straightforward billing error at Chicken Republic resulted in an unexpected gift of 165GB of data and ₦30,000 airtime.
The woman claimed that she went out to grab a quick snack after attending a conference without eating all day.
After ordering rice and fries at Chicken Republic, she discovered that she had been overcharged by approximately ₦6,600.
She said that an employee had inadvertently included an item that she had merely enquired about and had not placed an order for. When a second buyer came to order the same item, she said, the problem was recognised and fixed.
The woman clarified that the employee urged the new client to pay her ₦6,600 while his order was being processed, seemingly relieved that a refund would no longer be required.
He advised transferring airtime instead because she was in a rush and the customer's payment app wasn't working. After agreeing and getting the airtime, she drove off to finish her meal.
Days later, though, she was shocked to see a message on her phone indicating that she had gotten 165GB of data and ₦30,000 in airtime.
The woman claimed that she was especially taken aback because she was typically the one giving people data and airtime.
Reacting to the development, the lady said, “Now I’m staring at my phone with a text message saying “Hi Chicken Republic, I realised your airtime would have ran out today.””
Her story has raised awareness of the surprising ways that commonplace interactions can result in deeds of kindness, especially after what at first seemed to be nothing more than a typical restaurant billing blunder.
The narrative shows how a hurried supper, a ₦6,600 error, and an unsuccessful payment app ultimately led to a much greater surprise for the Nigerian woman.
