Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has praised fellow Nigerian musician Flavour Nabania for successfully building a profitable career without necessarily relying on international tours and major overseas music festivals.
Davido made the remarks during an interview with the BBC, where he discussed the Nigerian music industry, the different approaches artistes can take in building successful careers, and the importance of
understanding the market in which an artiste operates. According to him, an artiste does not necessarily have to travel abroad or perform at every major international festival to prove that they are successful.
While highlighting Flavour’s achievements, Davido noted that the singer has been able to make significant financial returns from his activities in Nigeria.
He suggested that Flavour’s success demonstrates that Nigerian artistes can remain focused on their home market while still achieving impressive financial and commercial results.
Davido said: “Flavour Nabania is in Nigeria making money than a lot of artistes that are touring in America you know, it doesn't have to be oh I want to do wireless, oh I want to do summer jam, it doesn't have to be that way you know.”
Flavour, who has built a reputation for his distinctive blend of highlife, Afrobeats and contemporary Nigerian sounds, has maintained a strong connection with his Nigerian and African audience over the years.
His ability to attract audiences and generate income through performances and other music-related activities in the African market appears to have informed Davido’s assessment.
