In an interview on TVC News, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the diversity of Nigeria's political landscape and the historical impact of ethnic and regional factors on presidential elections were addressed by Sani Shinkafi, an APC chieftain and Executive Director of Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development.
He made the point that the country's diverse population necessitates inclusive leadership and emphasises the importance of national unity in political campaigns.
The 2023 presidential candidates, according to Shinkafi, were a reflection of the ethnic and regional diversity of Nigeria.
He went on to say that voters took into account a wide range of demographic and political issues in addition to the candidates' ideas and expertise.
Speaking during the interview, Shinkafi stated, "Peter Obi, who appears to come from the Southeast, is of Igbo extraction." He made the remark while identifying the ethnic backgrounds of the leading presidential candidates during his analysis of Nigeria's political landscape.
