The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen security operations, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday, fulfilling Governor Seyi Makinde's earlier promise that they would be delivered before the end of July. According to the state government, the aircraft will provide aerial surveillance, monitor security threats, and support security agencies in combating kidnapping, banditry, illegal mining, and other crimes.
The two Diamond DA42 MNG ISR aircraft, procured at a cost of about ₦7.76 billion, are expected to enhance surveillance along Oyo State's borders with Kwara State and the Republic of Benin, while improving intelligence-led operations. Governor Makinde said the acquisition forms part of his administration's long-term strategy to strengthen the state's security architecture.
The government expressed confidence that the aircraft will significantly improve the capacity of security agencies to detect and respond to threats, while reassuring residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State.
