Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, says the passage of the State Police Bill marks a historic step towards reshaping Nigeria's security architecture and bringing policing closer to the communities it serves.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Abbas said the bill is aimed at protecting lives, strengthening intelligence gathering, improving response times, and giving states a greater role in safeguarding their people while preserving national cohesion through a complementary policing framework.
He commended members of the House for supporting the bill across party lines and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for forwarding the Executive Bill, which he said accelerated the national conversation on state policing. Abbas added that although the journey is not yet over, the passage of the bill brings Nigeria one step closer to a safer, stronger, and more responsive federation.
