Bandits attack Community, Injûre Two in Failed Bid to Abdûct Traditional Ruler in Kwara

Suspected bandits invaded Yaru community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Thursday evening in an apparent attempt to kidnap the Oniyaru of Yaru. The attack was repelled by a combined force of local hunters, vigilantes, and military personnel.

Security sources said the heavily armed assailants stormed the community with the intent of abducting the traditional ruler but retreated after meeting strong resistance from security operatives and local volunteers.

A source confirmed that the bandits were successfully pushed back, though two residents sustained injuries in the process.

The failed abduction attempt has left many residents unsettled, according to the source, who added that the attackers fled following the confrontation.

The incident comes just two days after a similar attack in the neighbouring Gaa Ogele community, where three people were reportedly kidnapped, raising fresh concerns over rising insecurity in parts of Ifelodun LGA.

Residents of Yaru, Gaa Ogele, and surrounding communities have expressed growing fear over the increasing activities of suspected bandits in the area.
