Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reacted to reports of an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying he would send his lawyer instead of appearing in person.
The “Zazzu Zeh” hitmaker made the remarks in a viral video while joking about the invitation and the current security situation in the country.
“Before anyone invites me anywhere, the person usually sends me money. But now that the invitation is from the EFCC, I will send my lawyer in my place,” Portable said.
The singer further claimed that after speaking with his lawyer, he was advised to delay honouring the invitation due to the state of insecurity in Nigeria.
“I have already spoken with my lawyer, and he said Nigeria is currently in a difficult state. He said his children are at home and unable to attend school because of kidnapping and insecurity,” he stated.
Portable also joked that his lawyer requested more time before responding to the anti-graft agency.
“He also said people are not at peace mentally, so I should give him until September. In September, we will honour the EFCC invitation,” he added.
The singer’s comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users treating the remarks as comedy while others criticised him for joking about an official invitation from a federal agency.
As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not officially responded to Portable’s comments.
Portable has repeatedly made headlines over controversial social media statements, clashes with authorities and public outbursts that often trend across Nigerian social media platforms.
