A commission of inquiry established by the Benue State Government has uncovered ₦139.8 billion in unaccounted public funds after investigating the state’s income and expenditure between 2015 and 2023.
Presenting the commission’s report to Governor Hyacinth Alia at the Government House in Makurdi on Friday, the Chairman of the Benue State Income and Expenditure Commission of Inquiry, retired Justice Jubril Idrisu, disclosed that the state generated over ₦826.5 billion in revenue during the period under review.
According to the report, total expenditure stood at approximately ₦683.4 billion, leaving a discrepancy of ₦139.8 billion yet to be properly accounted for.
The findings are expected to spark further scrutiny and possible actions as the government examines the report and considers the next steps.
