A respected Niger Delta leader, Dr. Henry Ogheneochuko Ofa, has called on youths and stakeholders across the region to remain calm and support the ongoing pipeline surveillance initiative led by Government Ekpemupolo.
In a strong message, he advised against rising protests linked to the pipeline surveillance contract, stressing that while people have the right to speak, actions must be guided by wisdom and the bigger picture.
According to him, the surveillance contract was properly awarded to Global West Vessel Specialist Limited based on its ability to tackle pipeline vandalism and illegal oil activities in the region.
He explained that since Tompolo took over the responsibility, Nigeria has seen a clear improvement in oil production, unlike in the past when such efforts failed to deliver results.
Dr. Ofa also appreciated the Federal Government for giving the opportunity to an indigenous company, noting that it shows trust, inclusion, and recognition of local capacity in the Niger Delta.
He further praised traditional rulers across oil-producing communities for supporting the project, adding that their unity is based on visible progress in security, economic growth, and peace in the region.
Speaking on the impact, he revealed that Nigeria’s oil production has increased significantly, now reaching about 1.6 to 1.84 million barrels per day, largely due to improved pipeline security.
He highlighted key benefits of the surveillance initiative, including; increase in national revenue, job opportunities for Niger Delta youths, reduction in oil theft and pipeline vandalism, improved local refining capacity
and better protection of national assets.
Dr. Ofa warned that opposing a system that is already delivering results could slow down development and bring back past challenges.
He urged youths to; stay peaceful and united,
avoid being used for negative actions,
support development-driven initiatives and
respect traditional leaders.
He concluded by stressing that this is a critical time for the Niger Delta, especially with global oil market uncertainties, and called on everyone to protect the gains already achieved.
In his words, supporting progress is the only way forward for the region and the country at large.
