• Ilawole cautions against political interference in service
The Acting Chairman of Owo Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Hammed, has approved transport support for staff of the local government, in a decisive move aimed at easing their daily commute and boosting productivity across the council.
The approval was granted on Wednesday when the Ondo State leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), led by its President, Comrade Fredrick Akinrinola, paid an official visit to the council secretariat.
The transport support, approved following a request by the NULGE State President, will involve the fuelling of the union’s bus to facilitate the daily conveyance of staff to and from work, thereby addressing concerns of lateness and absenteeism.
In his remarks, Comrade Akinrinola reiterated that the primary responsibility of the union is to protect the interests of its members. He commended the Acting Chairman for his responsiveness and worker-friendly disposition, stating that the visit allowed the union to brief staff on its activities while also engaging them on prevailing challenges.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Bayo Ilawole, highlighted ongoing government efforts to enhance the welfare and capacity of local government personnel. He urged staff to uphold the ethics of the civil service, stressing the need to remain professional and steer clear of political interference, which he described as antithetical to the ideals of the public service.
The representative of the Olowo of Owo, High Chief Osuporu Agheru, presented a royal gift to the NULGE President, signifying the accommodating spirit of Owo.
Also part of the visiting delegation were representatives of the Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGEHIS) and a mortgage institution, who sensitised staff on available healthcare and housing support services.
Hon. Hammed assured the delegation of the continuous support of the present administration for initiatives that promote staff welfare and institutional efficiency.
The visit concluded with renewed assurances of collaboration between the local government authority and NULGE towards fostering a more responsive and productive service.
The event was attended by political office holders, top government functionaries, State and Branch NULGE executives, and members of staff.
