A lady has cr¡ed out online after her boyfriend of six years abruptly ended their relationship upon seeing her family's bride price list.
According to her, the couple had been dating for six years and were finally planning to get married. However, things took a h34rtbr34king turn when the boyfriend reviewed the lengthy list of items demanded by her family.
He reportedly called off the wedding immediately, stating that the requirements were excessive and unrealistic.
The controversial bride price list included: 5 fat cows, 50 broiler chickens, 30 vxxgin he-goats, 100 bags of cement, 500 tubers of yam, ₦10 million for the family, ₦5 million for the community, an iPhone 17 Air for the bride’s mother, an iPhone 17 Pro Max for the father, 10 bags of foreign rice, 50 liters of fuel, solar panels, and several other items.
My take: If this story is real, it seems the community or this particular family is making it extremely difficvlt for their daughters to get married. Such inflated demands can delay or completely d3stroy promising relationships, turning what should be a joyful union into a financial burden. In many cases, it pushes couples to either elope, c○habit without traditional rites, or simply give up.
Reasonable cultural practices are fine, but when bride price starts looking like a business deal, it defeats the purpose of marriage.
