Presidential media aide, Daniel Bwala, has reacted to the reactions that followed his recent interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan on Al Jazeera.
Bwala said many of the negative comments on social media came after the interview was shared widely online. According to him, the criticisms he made about Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the past were simply part of political opposition at that time.
He explained that speaking against political opponents is common in politics, and it does not mean people cannot later work together.
Bwala also said the interview team did not fully inform him that questions about his past statements would be raised. According to him, the discussion was supposed to focus on issues like security, the economy and corruption in Nigeria.
The presidential aide said his duty is to promote and defend the government of President Tinubu, and he is ready to face any interview anywhere in the world to explain the policies of the administration.
He added that many people who once criticised leaders later worked with them, pointing out that even members of former US President Donald Trump’s cabinet once spoke against him.
Bwala also thanked Nigerians and others who supported him after the interview and said he respects Mehdi Hasan as a strong debater.
He hinted that there may be a second part of the interview where discussions will focus more on the achievements and policies of the Tinubu administration.
