Families of those kidnapped in a recent attack in the Kubwa area of Abuja are urgently calling on authorities for help, sharing distressing accounts of armed men invading homes, stealing belongings, and abducting women and children.
Among the victims is a nursing mother who gave birth less than 40 days ago, leaving her newborn baby behind while she is held captive.
Her husband, Yohanna Ciroma, told PSN that their family has been plunged into despair since the incident, revealing that the infant is currently being looked after by his sister.
"My wife, who is nursing, was also taken during the kidnapping," Ciroma recounted. "At this moment, our newborn is with my sister, who is caring for and feeding him until we can bring his mother back home."
He explained that he learned of the abduction when a colleague he had asked to check on his family raised the alarm.
"I asked one of my colleagues to visit my house. When he arrived, he said he had been trying to reach my wife, but she wasn’t responding. They had broken a window to get in," he said.
"I hurried back and found she was missing. We searched everywhere in the bush. It’s been less than 40 days since she gave birth."
Ciroma expressed the emotional strain of the situation, noting that the baby is now entirely reliant on family members.
"The baby is currently with my sister, who is providing milk and care for him," he added.
Another family faced a tragic situation as four children were taken during the raid.
Their mother, Gloria Anotu, urged the government to help find her children, explaining they were taken without even having time to get dressed.
"I want the government to assist me in retrieving my children. They are my only concern right now," she pleaded.
"Witnesses said they were taken without clothes. My youngest daughter, who is six, was very ill at the time."
Anotu also described how the attackers ransacked her home and stole her possessions.
"They broke into my house, entered my room, and turned everything upside down," she said. "They touched everything. They went to my storeroom and took rice, oil, and all my clothes, as well as my husband’s clothes from the wardrobe."
The father of the abducted children, Tony Anotu, expressed that the trauma experienced by the victims, especially the children, is unbearable.
"What we need now is assistance. We are Nigerians, yet we are living like slaves in our own country," he stated.
"The pain of what those children are going through is heartbreaking. Their father is absent, their mother is gone, and they are now in the hands of armed strangers."
He made a direct appeal to Nigerian leaders, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, and security agencies, urging them to take immediate action.
"You are here to protect the citizens of Nigeria. We are crying out for help," he said.
A local vigilante member, Christian Cletus, remarked that community volunteers are powerless against the attackers due to their advanced weaponry.
"With the type of weapons these kidnappers possess, I don’t believe we stand a chance against them."
